Hi, I am fairly new to inForm (2.0.20), but nonetheless would like to offer up my feature wishlist for 3.0. Please excuse and correct me if I suggest a feature that already exists. It looks like there will be a number of great advancements in 3.0, I'm looking forward to it.

Here's my hopeful wishlist:

1) HOT KEYS!!! Just about every feature currently requires a click-scroll-click. It would be nice to reduce many features to just a click. For example: "del" to delete an entry; "enter" to view an entry or form; "n" for new entry; scroll wheel left or right to collapse or expand a category. The application "ToDoMatrix" has a very nice implementation of hotkeys. An extra bonus would be to make the hot keys configurable.

2) In a "select-box" control, it would be great if a user could add additional options on the fly.

3) Form Listing --> New Form -->View all capability: From the "Form Listing page, one can choose "New" or "view all" for any database/list. If one chooses "New", one cannot go back to "view all" for that particular database/form without first returning to the "form listing" page. (I hope that makes sense.) The only way to accomplish this currently, as I understand it, is to first choose "view all" from the "form listing" page, then choose "new". After a new entry is made, one can then press the escape key to get back to the "view all" screen. In my humble opinion... I think it would be nice if the escape key always returned the user from the "new", "view" or "edit" page, to the ""view all" page. Another tap of the escape key would bring you back to the "form listing" page. Or alternatively, there could be a option in the " new", "view" or "edit" page called "view all" .... or best yet... a hot key like "v".

4) Ability to change the widths of columns in the "view all" screen.

5) Input memory: (This might be a tall order), but it would be slick if when a user types in a text field, the contents of other entries for the same text field with similar letters would pop up for the user to choose from. SImilar to the default input system in Microsoft Excel.

That's all for now. Thanks for listening,
Ethan

Thanks Ethan,

We're going to try and include Hotkeys and your request for Text Control 'Memory' in the 3.0 release.

We're too far down the path with with the 3.0 relese to change the navigation scheme as you suggest but will put it in our 3.x list.

Also, FYI, you can already add combobox items on the fly. Hint: Make sure you select 'Allow Item Edit' in the form editor.

Thank you!

The list looks GREAT - it would be nice to have an OnError function. This would be particularly helpful in Div/0 situations when a form needs to initialize fields to zero, but that zero would cause a problem in a calculation.

thanks for listening...

We have a feature in 3.0 that allows you to output a word template. This would be close to what you are looking for (you can lock down a word template to prevent 3rd party edits) so it would be similar to a PDF file. Would this work for your needs?

Yes, word would be just fine. What I'm trying to do is create a form for my Field Service group to eliminate all of our paper forms and our electronic forms (for laptops) with our Blackberry. I am trying several form apps for the blackberry and I do find that inForm to be very neat and efficient. I'm just wondering if the photo tool was able to use photo's on the SD card rather then using the camera? One of our forms requires a signature and this can be achieved by using a bluetooth signature pad, but it saves the signature as a JPG on the SD card. Thanks

Since the topic of outputting has come up (and data exchange formats in general), how about the option of communicating not in .CSV files, but with .XML files? That would enable seamless merging with a variety of data stores, as well as populating PDF forms on a form server, addressing the document creation aspects.

TFL!

Hi Joey,

XML output has been in the product for over a year now. XML output can be selected on the Form Setup Screen under both the 'Submit' and 'Email' features.

Thanks,

Hi,

I would want the ability to import existing forms from different formats (i.e. word and infopath) as templates. I have a current project to implement mobile form solutions to our field workers using our existing electronic forms that are in infopath format. Our company uses many electronic forms that are in Infopath format and it would save so much time if you could simply import these forms to inForm format instead of creating new forms.

Hi linti2002,

We've tried to tackle that one in the past. The problem with this is that infopath forms are so different as far as control types, screen widths, etc, that the converter tools we've tried to build have always fallen short of expectations and created lots of issues for our users.

One thing we do to overcome this is provide a forms conversion service for our customers. We typically do this at cost, and will often include the service with some of our larger license purchases.

We have some costing on our website, but we also offer volume discounts for large sets of forms.

Thank you,

Thank you for your informative reply. I will seriously consider your Form solution app. It is good to know that you provide a form service that can convert infopath forms and that it is included with volume licenses. It would be nice if you have a connector for MS SQL as this is what we will need to integrate the forms to our back end with.
